42″W x 23″H Like New, Lithograph in colors, UnframedThis is a rare and coveted original 1988 Art Gallery of … more 42″W x 23″H Like New, Lithograph in colors, UnframedThis is a rare and coveted original 1988 Art Gallery of Ontario exhibition poster featuring one of Andy Warhol’s most iconic works, his 1964 Elvis I and II. The silkscreen painting is in the permanent collection of this museum. It’s monumental in size, approximately 7 ft x 14 ft, and is a diptych comprised of two canvases, each a double image of Elvis appropriated from a publicity photo for his 1960 film, Flaming Star. One side of the work is alive and bursting with vibrant colors, while the other is monochromatic and sombre with the second Elvis slowly fading out and taking on a ghostly appearance. The poster is a high quality lithograph in colors printed on fine matte super white art paper which doesn’t change color with age. Particular attention was given to rendering as accurately as possible the dense metallic silver color of the second canvas –Andy Warhol used metallic spray paint in the original– and to achieve this a separate lithographic plate was used for this color only. It is this attention to detail and striving for fidelity to the original work that makes this poster special. less
