Not just any museum — how about the Brooklyn Museum, with their fabulous Art Deco collection?! I’d say “yes” to that question! Yoo-hoo, anybody listening?Built around 1927 (that’s the latest date on the sticker displaying various copyrights), this festive set would have been all the rage as America was partying furiously. Imagine a couple stylish flappers and their “beaux” playing Chinese checkers, mah-jongg, or bridge at this table and having the time of their lives, that frivolity soon to evaporate in the Depression.The Art Deco period was all about exoticism, among other aspects; the depictions of Chinese iconography on all the chairs and tabletop certainly support that notion. The chairs are in superb condition, with no significant issues. They’re quite substantial and seating is comfortable. The edge of the tabletop is worn in a few areas, as evidenced in the photos. The maker of the set, an Illinois firm, was clearly design-conscious and intent on crafting high-quality furniture.Measurements: the height of the chairs is 32 inches. The width of the seat is 13 ½, the depth the same and the height off the ground, 17 ¾. The tabletop measures 28 ¾ square and the height is 27. less
