Schiaparelli, one of the most famous … more This is a RARE 1949 original vintage perfume advertisement for Elsa Schiaparelli’s parfum “Shocking”. Schiaparelli, one of the most famous fashion designers, along with Coco Chanel, was prominent between the two World Wars. She teamed with Marcel Vertes who created the whimsical, modern illustrated ads complementing Schiaparelli’s avant-garde style and irreverent attitude. Vertes collaborated with Schiaparelli and illustrated publicity ads for her perfume capturing her spirit and style. Note his initial signature on top right. This print is a prime example of mid-century style, flair, and pizazz in advertising art. This is a rare image as it is the first time we have had it in our collection. Originally appeared in a haute couture magazine form 1949. It had limited circulation and thus it is difficult to find with the passage of time. Wonderful, strong color…especially the magenta! 9 x 11 inches in size. Excellent condition. Comes custom matted in a neutral 16 x 20 inch mat that works perfectly in a standard size frame. Please allow time for custom matting. less
