Each “house” was part of a neighborhood and each represented a different kind of person that resides there. This piece is mixed media on panel which the artist depicts the subject matter as “the one that is always in the garden growing things and giving them away because they grew more than they can use.” The embossed text in the lower left corner reads “she was the queen of compost and the birds and the bees.” It is painted on vinyl floor tile mounted to wood panels.”By artist Darlene Olivia McElroy, a narrative mixed media artist who sees herself as a storyteller, using collage elements to tell a detailed, narrative story. Her artwork is always colorful, full of texture from use of a mix of old and new items, and tells a rich, clever story about the subject matter.
