Laura Pasquino Incorporating references from ancient Korean ceramics as well as principles of Japanese aesthetics of wabi-sabi, I am led by experimentation with the pure shape of the sphere. My works, which include both functional vessels and sculptures, are each infused with precious imperfections and minimalist aesthetic. The clay, often coarse and textured, is sculpted, hand-built or wheel-thrown to create a wide range of effects and surfaces. My work embraces simplicity, asymmetry and beauty in understated. The dents and scars add subtle grace and individuality to every piece of work. To honour the raw material of clay, the works are often left unglazed. Each artwork is crafted by hand from natural stoneware clay compound and is one of a kind. less
